Meyer Distributing Readies for Annual Show

Wholesale operator Meyer Distributing will take a virtual approach to its annual sales event, hosting the upcoming 13-day event online.

Meyer, an international automotive distributor that announced its entry into RV wholesale last year, will host a 13-day online selling event – called the eMeyer Mega Show – that the company says has all the benefits of a live show without the need to travel or make deals in a limited window.

“(The show) will allow our dealers an opportunity to receive all of the discounts they would receive at a physical show without any of the pressures and time commitments that naturally come with traveling and being away from their stores,” RV/Towing Category Manager Jason Lents said in a news release.

To participate, buyers need to sign up by Saturday (Feb. 13). The event takes place Feb. 14 to 27. Dealers can log into the site at any time during the show. Meyer representatives are available for assistance from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Throughout the event, suppliers can opt to offer special pricing, prizes and door prizes.

Meyer began using the online system, which is offered at no charge for buyers, for shows in 2008. Prior to that, the company hosted an annual brick-and-mortar event in Louisville, Ky., according to Meyer Marketing Art Director Natalie Tempel.

“We had our own show, which was in Louisville, but we figured we can give people those same discounts and opportunities without having the expenses of driving and stuff like that. Everyone wants to save a buck here and there,” she said.

For many brick-and-mortar show attendees, the gathering is as much social as business, and Tempel said that Meyer still makes those face-to-face visits throughout the year, keeping up with its customers and manufacturers with through its 14 RV territory representatives.

“We put people in each sector of the U.S. to make those calls and meet with people face-to-face, and that’s just our outside sales team,” Tempel said. “Our inside sales force also goes out to visit with customers so that they also get that face-to-face with the people they talk to on the phone.”

Another benefit of the event is that it opens up the full Meyer catalogue to its various industry customers, according to Tempel.

“Anyone who is our customer and has an online account can participate,” she said.

For example, dealers interested in crossover products can browse both the automotive and RV offering from Meyer.
