Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday Opens in West Virginia

Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) welcomes the Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday to the KOA family of campgrounds. Built with an original $11 million investment and situated on 37 acres within the 400-acre Mylan Park Complex, the Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday combines comfortable, convenient campground amenities with proximity and access to one of West Virginia’s most comprehensive recreational and event facilities, according to a press release.

The campground is part of a major revitalization effort supported by the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) Program, which awarded an original $3.75 million in funding for excavation, electrical, plumbing, storm work, pump stations and gravel trail. Following that, the project received an additional $1 million in funding to support Phase II, which included additional cabins and paving of interior roads, of the Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday.

Located just a few miles from West Virginia University, the campground provides a new year-round lodging option for visitors, families attending sporting events, and RV travelers exploring the Appalachian region, KOA said. The campground began a phased opening in May with 41 full hookup RV sites. It is now fully open, offering RV sites, tent sites and deluxe cabins.

“After welcoming our first guests earlier this summer, we’re excited to officially open the Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday at full capacity,” said Frank Witt, general manager of the Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday. “This campground is unlike anything else in the region, offering both top-tier amenities and access to the state of the art facilities at Mylan Park. Whether you’re attending a swim meet, catching a Mountaineer game, or just looking to enjoy the beauty of north-central West Virginia, we’ve built a place where everyone can feel at home under the stars.”

Campgrounds have a significant economic and cultural impact on local communities. According to KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers injected $61 billion into local economies in 2024, with the average camper spending $200 daily while camping. Campers are looking to experience the culture of local regions, with 27% of campers saying they are interested in visiting small towns, and another 27% drawn to food tourism.

KOA Holiday campgrounds are ideal base camps for exploring the area, or simply enjoying a fun-filled stay with plenty of activities. Whether for a longer getaway or an overnight stop, KOA Holiday campgrounds offer amenities and services that make every stay memorable. Each KOA Holiday offers full-service RV Sites with a KOA Patio® and Deluxe Cabins with full bathrooms.

The Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday became fully operational Aug. 28, featuring 137 full hookup RV sites, 110 pull-thru and 27 back-in, 22 cabins built by Lancaster Cabin, 10 tent sites, an adaptive playground, a central lodge, which will be fully open later this fall, with amenities and activities and access to all facilities at the Mylan Park Complex.

“The addition of a KOA Holiday campground to Mylan Park is a major milestone in our mission to create spaces that serve both our community and visitors,” said Ron Justice, Mylan Park executive director. “This project brings together outdoor recreation, high-quality hospitality, and accessibility in a way that reflects the values of this region. We’re proud to partner with KOA and look forward to seeing this campground become a year-round destination for families, sports teams, and travelers from across the country.”

The Morgantown/Mylan Park KOA Holiday is one of more than 500 open-to-the-public KOA campgrounds in the U.S. and Canada. Other brands in the KOA Family of Campgrounds include KOA Journeys, convenient locations after a long day on the road that feature long pull-thru RV Sites and easy after-hours check-in. KOA Resorts offer an abundance of staff-led activities, on-site dining, group meeting space, and more.

Located at 23 Campground Way in Morgantown, West Virginia the campground will be open year round.
