Multiple RVs Catch Fire at Pete’s RV in Connecticut
The following is a report from South Windsor’s WTNH News 8.
Multiple RVs and motor homes caught fire at Pete’s RV Center Thursday morning, according to the South Windsor Fire Chief.
The scene on John Fitch Boulevard was active as of 6 a.m., but officials with South Windsor Police Dispatch said the fire was under control before 5 a.m.
Chief Kevin Cooney said the fire was reported to dispatch around 4:15 a.m.
The first police officer to arrive on scene found one RV on fire before observing an explosion of propane tanks about three minutes later.
Police said the explosion caused further damage to at least four motor homes and heat damage to several other vehicles and the main building.
Cooney said four RVs — including two motor homes and two portable RVs — were destroyed.
A similar fire occurred at the business in 2018, during which a large shed fire extended to two campers and four vehicles.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
The cause of fire is under investigation by the South Windsor Police Department and South Windsor Fire Marshall’s Office. A Connecticut State Police K9 trained in fire and explosion is also assisting.
Cooney said the business’ gates were locked when they arrived.
