New Jersey Custom Coach Builder Expands Projects With Renogy

Ambulances, shuttle buses, Sprinter vans and overland rigs are rolling out of a small New Jersey shop as fully off-grid adventure machines, all powered by Renogy energy systems, Renogy said in a recent release.

When Mike Huschke built his first mobile home in 2017, it wasn’t part of a business plan — it was a passion project. “My own personal bus I just built before the explosion of everybody building these things,” he recalled. Soon, people began asking him to build their dream rigs, and by 2020, JM Custom Coach Builders was officially on the map in Florence, New Jersey.

“At first, I said no, I didn’t really want to build you anything. It’s a whole lot of work and it’s really hard. But enough people asked, and I leaned into learning all the new products,” Huschke said, noting he’s attended RV Technical Institute classes in Elkhart, Indiana.

Huschke didn’t just learn; he mastered the art of turning anything with wheels into a luxury, fully off-grid micro-home. From ambulances to overlanders, he now builds about three to four vehicles a year, each one uniquely designed to fit its owner’s lifestyle. He said, “Every single thing is custom; you bring me whatever vehicle you want built out and tell me what you need. I make the space functional. It’s all custom.”

Huschke’s builds may be unique, but their power systems share a common thread: Renogy. Over the past several years, he’s relied exclusively on Renogy technology to deliver smart, efficient and cost-effective off-grid energy systems, Renogy said.

“Every build I’ve done over the last seven or eight builds, I’ve basically stuck with Renogy,” he said. What drew him in wasn’t hype — it was practicality. “They were reasonably priced and innovative.”

Availability also played a key role. “At first, it was just because I could get them fast on Amazon, sometimes within a day or two, but once I started using them, I realized how well they worked.”

Today, as a Renogy dealer, Huschke equips his builds with Renogy’s most flexible gear, products like 3000-watt inverter/chargers, bifacial solar panels and lithium batteries, depending on each client’s needs and budget.

  • JM OlderUnitNewPower
JM Customs uses new Renogy solar panels when upgrading and customizing vehicles and RVs.

Renogy 3000W Inverter/Charger – “That’s one less thing I have to wire separately.”

  • Bifacial Solar Panels – “They were shorter by three inches, fit perfectly, and added an extra 50 watts each.”
  • Renogy 200Ah AGM Batteries – Cost-saving power for budget-conscious builds.
  • Renogy 300Ah Lithium Batteries – His go-to recommendation for high-performance energy storage.
  • MPPT Solar Charge Controllers – Used in hybrid solar setups for truck campers and overlanders.

From a compact truck camper to a British-built overland rig traveling the world promoting organ donation awareness, every project brings new challenges, and Renogy products remain at the core of his electrical systems, the company said.

A One-Man Workshop With Global Reach

Mike’s expertise even took him beyond the shop floor. After attending an advanced electrical course at RV Technical Institute in Indiana, he discovered just how rare his skills are on the East Coast. “Every representative there said there’s nobody in the Tri-State area, nobody on the East Coast. I was like, great, it’s just me then.”

His YouTube presence, collaborations with channels like New Jersey Outdoor Adventures and constant flow of inquiries have turned JM Custom Coach Builders into a go-to builder for off-grid adventurers.

And while he occasionally fights off a symphony of barking corgis in the background, his focus stays sharp: “It’s nothing but a big puzzle that you have to put together. And it’s stimulating to me doing it.”

For Huschke, Renogy isn’t just a supplier, it’s a system that helps him solve that puzzle, one coach at a time. Check out his Facebook page here.
