The National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) has received 10 new generators from Next-Gen Power Systems (NPS) for use in the school’s hands-on labs.

The NPS model Y6000eco generators use a Yamaha engine as well as a microprocessor control with proprietary pure sine wave inverter technology. The units were designed for RV use in that they meet National Park Service requirements for use in its campgrounds. The units also include a U.S. Forest Service-approved spark-arresting muffler, according to the company’s website.

Ten of these generators were donated by NPS for NRVTA to train techs on.

The donations will be used in advanced training classes focused on RV electrical power systems as well as on-board generators. Using them in hands-on labs allows students to learn exactly how the systems are intended to operate, which makes troubleshooting problems easier, said Todd Henson, NRVTA director of education.

“NPS is getting into the RV manufacturing market after being in the aftermarket for several years. The company wants to ensure there are enough skilled technicians trained to work on their products,” Henson said.

“With increased interest in boondocking so RVers have more options on where to use their recreation vehicles, the industry is seeing greater demand for gas and diesel generators installed as original equipment on RVs,” Henson added. “This donation helps NRVTA fill the gap for skilled and trained generator technicians, which is one of the larger underserved markets in the RV industry.”
