The Athens, Texas-based National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) said it will offer a new RV generator maintenance class on Oct. 5 in Athens.
- The advanced training course will teach RV technicians:
- How to properly inspect gasoline-powered and diesel generators
- How to correctly diagnose problems starting the generator or delivering the proper power load.
- How to diagnose problems with fuel and oil delivery.
- How to determine if the generator is repairable or needs to be replaced.
Craig Johnson will teach the class. A former Generac technician, he has also worked on industrial generators as powerful as 2 megawatts. He is certified by the Electrical Generating Systems Association.
“A lot of RV owners and technicians consider generators to be a real mystery. We’re going to run students through a variety of hands-on labs to help them fully understand how generators work as well as how to complete a true inspection of an RV generator,” said Johnson.
“We will pay a lot of attention to safety while bringing technicians up to speed quickly. When they’ve completed the training, students should be able to troubleshoot 80 percent of problems with any RV generator,” he added.
The deadline for enrolling for this generators class is Oct. 2. The cost to attend the five-day course is $1,500. Upon successful completion, students will earn a certificate and 35 continuing education hours that can be applied to maintaining credentials as an NRVTA Certified or Registered RV Technician.
