Obit: Industry Veteran John Mickey Mourned
John Mickey died June 12 in Florida, reported his son Steven Mickey, who lives in Satellite Beach, Florida. John Mickey is also survived by another son, Michael Mickey in Rockledge, Florida, as well as five grandchildren.
John Mickey started his career in the RV industry in 1965 as a draftsman for the Vesely Corp., maker of Apache pop-ups. He was soon moved into the sales department where he advanced to the position of national sales manager. In 1975 Keith and Tom Corson hired him as the general manager for the Viking division of Coachmen. From there he rose to president of Shasta; a couple years later Sportscoach and Fan were placed under his umbrella. His last few years with Coachmen he held the position of president. In 1985 he left Coachmen and started a motorhome company named Rainbow RV. He grew that from the ground up and sold it to RVC Corp of Goshen, Indiana. Mickey finished out his career with stints at Coast Distribution System and Bill Gorman Consulting.
