Oklahoma RV Sales Donates Camper to Family Affected by Wildfire
The following is a report from FOX23.
A family-owned business in Mannford is lending a big hand to families in need after devastating fires left so many people without homes.
Oklahoma RV Sales said their mission is simple: raise money to help donate more campers to families in need.
They said they’re hopeful the family who received the camper on Monday is the first of many to have a place to call home.
“You know somewhere for them to live that is better than a hotel, so that is a blessing,” said Candice Sloan. “But it is not their home and all of their belongings in their home.”
Sloan said she and her family saw the devastation first hand as fires swept through the community.
“My brother-in-law was out fighting fires and was on the scene of it, and he came to my husband and said ‘there is something we have to do for this town,'” said Sloan.
They stepped in to help and heard the story of one family in particular. One of their children has special needs and thrives on routine.
“It was heartbreaking. Everything they are going through, everything they have lost — the whole deal. We knew something had to be done and that is when Oklahoma RV Sales stepped up and said ‘we are going to donate a camper to this family’ and that is how it all started,” said Sloan.
She said it took a lot of time, sweat and effort to make this camper a perfect fit and were also able to get the family started with basic supplies as they navigate a new normal.
Sloan said they started a GoFundMe in hopes of bringing relief to even more families.
