ORR and Others Praise Passage of GAOA
The House’s passage Thursday of the Great American Outdoors Act means that the largest piece of legislation focused on the nation’s environmental resources will soon become law.
The House passage follows the Senate’s passage of the GAOA in June, and President Trump has already said he will sign it into law.
The bill, which was heavily endorsed by the RV Industry Association, the RV Dealers Association, the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and scores of like-minded organizations, big and small, guarantees mandatory, permanent financing of the Land and Water Conservation Fund at $900 million a year. It also earmarks $1.9 billion annually for the next five years to deal with maintenance backlogs on public lands administered by the National Park Service, the Forest Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Bureau of Indian Education.
“GAOA is a major 21st century achievement and a reminder that when all sides work together, we can accomplish great things for the outdoors and the nation,” said Jessica (Wahl) Turner, executive director of Outdoor Recreation Roundtable.
The RVDA compiled reactions to the bill’s passage from several interested parties into a piece that can be found here.
