ORR Lauds Senate Designation of June as Great Outdoors Month
The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) applauded the U.S. Senate for unanimously passing a resolution designating June 2025 as Great Outdoors Month, reaffirming the critical contributions of outdoor recreation to the American economy, health and quality of life.
“Great Outdoors Month is a celebration of the places, people and policies that make outdoor recreation possible for all Americans. It’s about recognizing the profound value the outdoors brings to our economy, communities and health — and recommitting to protecting and expanding access to those experiences and public lands and waters,” said Jessica Turner, president of ORR. “As the voice of the $1.2 trillion outdoor recreation economy, ORR is proud to lead this effort each June and support the bipartisan momentum behind initiatives like the EXPLORE Act, which will strengthen outdoor infrastructure, grow the recreation workforce and ensure more people can get outside. We’re grateful to Sens. Daines and Peters for championing the Senate resolution and reinforcing that the outdoors isn’t a partisan issue — it’s a national priority.”
Great Outdoors Month began as Great Outdoors Week under President Clinton and has since been proclaimed by every president since 1998. The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution recognizing the month annually since 2017. The 2025 resolution continues this tradition, highlighting the powerful role of outdoor recreation in uniting Americans across backgrounds and boosting local economies nationwide.
ORR said it encourages individuals, businesses and policymakers to celebrate Great Outdoors Month by getting outside and supporting efforts to expand access to parks, trails and public lands.
