Outdoorsy Group Rebrands to ‘The Ride Platform’

The Outdoorsy Group is now The Ride Platform, founder and CEO Jeff Cavins announced on LinkedIn on Wednesday, June 17.

“Outdoorsy was the right name for an RV company,” Cavins said. “We stopped being one years ago. We just hadn’t said it out loud.”

The following is an excerpt from Cavins’ LinkedIn post. Click here to read the full post.

That decade taught us something we didn’t fully admit until recently. We were never really an RV marketplace. We were building an operating system for the people that other platforms overlook. And we’d only just started.

Why the name had to change

A name should tell the truth about what a company is. The Outdoorsy Group no longer did.

This isn’t a coat of paint. It’s a recognition of what we actually built: a stack spanning marketplace, fleet software, insurance, and AI technology that can serve any mobility operator running any kind of vehicle, anywhere in the world. And even vehicles that require no human operator.

The RV business that was our first chapter isn’t going anywhere. In reality, our commitment to that community grows as we expand. Outdoorsy was the proof of concept. It taught us how to build for a community of operators nobody else was serving, and we’ll keep building for them, and bring everything we build next back to them, too. What’s changing is the scope of who we serve.

McKinsey puts shared mobility at $1 trillion by 2030. Goldman Sachs puts the global autonomous-vehicle market at $2 trillion by 2035. And the shift is already underway: Roamly’s carshare insurance has grown 500% in the past twelve months. That’s not a projection. We’re watching it climb right now.

Yet the infrastructure layer this market will need — purpose-built insurance, software for modern fleet operators, marketplaces that treat operators as partners instead of inventory — barely exists at scale. That gap is exactly where we’ve spent a decade learning to operate.

ride platform four linesRoamly FSD is live, a commercial insurance product that cuts operator costs by 50% when a vehicle is in autopilot or FSD mode. Ride, our car-rental marketplace, lets operators keep 80% of every booking, built for operator economics, not platform extraction. And we’re rebuilding Wheelbase into the connective system that ties the whole stack together, from a single RV host to a multilocation fleet of autonomous vehicles running across a single metro or hundreds of metros.

So we’re making a deliberate, decade-informed bet: every mobility operator needs the same three things, whether it’s someone renting their rig on a summer weekend or a fleet running a hundred autonomous vehicles across a city. Insurance that fits and that reads FSD in real time and adjusts in real time. Software that scales. And a marketplace that leaves margin for the operators.

We’ve built that before, against a sea of skepticism, in a market nobody was watching, for operators nobody was serving. Eleven years later the market just got a lot bigger. And we are very ready.
