A maker of components for boats and RVs plans to build a $19 million, 380,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in New Haven that is expected to create 140 new jobs by the end of 2019.

Elkhart-based Lippert Components paid the Allen County Redevelopment Commission $670,000 for 52 acres at 1400 Ryan Road late last year, but released no details of its plans until filing a request for a tax abatement with the county’s Department of Planning Services — a request to be considered by New Haven City Council next week.

In 2015 Lippert completed a $16 million deal to acquire Signature Seating at 6900 Nelson Road in New Haven, and that operation and its 185 employees will be incorporated into the new facility.
According to the application, the expansion will create about 70 production jobs and another 70 sewing positions, each paying an average of $15 per hour for a total additional annual payroll of about $4.4 million.

Construction is expected to start in May, with completion in late 2019.

The project includes $15.3 million in real estate improvements, $3.8 million in manufacturing equipment and $75,000 in information technology equipment.

Lippert was established in 1956 and reported sales of $1.6 billion in 2016. If the abatement is approved, over 10 years the company would save about $2.2 million in real estate taxes and $234,153 in taxes on new equipment.
