The Elkhart Police Department has joined an investigation to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a Forest River manufacturing plant.
The fire at Forest River Plant 5, 411 C.R. 15, was not necessarily the consequence of a criminal act, public information officer Lt. Travis Snider told the Elkhart Truth on Monday.
But since the fire marshal was unable to determine the cause of the March 12 fire by March 15, Detective Scott Johnson, who is trained in investigating arson, has been called to assist in the investigation.
Snider said arson cannot be ruled out as a cause of the fire.
The Elkhart Fire Department said that in addition to Elkhart Police, investigators are working with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office and private fire investigators hired by the insurance company.
