The pre-owned RV market enters January 2026 with a cautiously optimistic outlook, National Powersports Auctions (NPA) said in its RV Pre-Owned Report for January. While inventory levels remain high, the “normalization” of the market is nearly complete, with wholesale values aligning more closely with historical depreciation curves.
Values for travel trailers and fifth wheels could see a modest 1.8% increase month-over-month*. This uptick is largely attributed to dealers restocking ahead of the spring surge and follows historical seasonal behavior. Motorized RVs, like Class A and Class C units, are expected to remain relatively flat, NPA said. Currently, buyers are favoring smaller, fuel-efficient Class B camper vans, which continue to command a premium in the resale market.
2026 Dealer Strategy Recommendations
Prioritize Late-Model Trade-Ins
NPA advised dealers to focus on 2022 and newer units. Consumers are wary of maintenance-heavy older units and are willing to pay a premium for factory-standard technology such as lithium power systems and solar integration.
Aggressive Pricing on Aged Units
With the 2026 new models arriving, dealers should liquidate any pre-owned units older than 90 days. Capital liquidity is more valuable than holding out for a marginal gain on a stale unit.
January 2026 serves as the barometer for the year ahead. While the easy sales of prior years have passed, a disciplined approach to inventory sourcing and a focus on high-demand categories such as Class B units and lightweight towables will support a profitable Q1.
