RV Industry Association President Elect Frank Hugelmeyer officially joined RVIA on July 13 at the association’s headquarters in Reston, Va., to begin the transition process that will see him assume the top staff position when current RVIA President Richard Coon retires on Oct. 1.

Hugelmeyer has spent his first days at RVIA meeting with staff to further familiarize himself with RVIA’s many activities and the pressing issues facing the RV industry. This orientation builds upon the two days Hugelmeyer spent in Elkhart, Ind., last week meeting with association leaders and key industry members as he drove from Boulder, Colo., to Reston.

“I was thrilled to be selected as RVIA’s incoming president,” said Hugelmeyer. “And, now after meeting and spending time with the staff over the course of just a few days, I can say my excitement has only been heightened. I’m eagerly looking forward to working with our talented board, volunteer leaders, management team and staff to deliver outstanding services and value to our members.”

“It is great to have Frank on board, especially as we finalize the budgeting and planning process for our next fiscal year.  It’s the optimal time for him to come on board.” said RVIA President Richard Coon. “I look forward to working with him over the next few months and fully expect that this process will result in a seamless transition for the association.”

RVIA’s Board of Directors approved the hiring of Hugelmeyer on June 4 at RVIA’s Committee Week following an extensive search by the Presidential Search Committee.

From 2000-2014, Hugelmeyer was the president and CEO of OIA, the association of the outdoor recreation industry based in Boulder, Colo. In this capacity, Hugelmeyer worked with the world’s premier outdoor brands and business executives in the areas of recreation economics, public lands policy and consumer trends.

Throughout his career, Hugelmeyer has consulted regularly with companies that include The North Face, Patagonia, Timberland, L.L. Bean, REI and Amazon, along with numerous governmental agencies, non-profit groups and foundations. Since November 2014, he was president of Recreation Influence Strategies, a Denver-based management consulting firm where he has been recognized internationally as a leading expert on outdoor recreation business and consumer trends.

In addition, he has served on a wide variety of boards and advisory groups including the Outdoor Foundation, National Forum on Children and Nature, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, Western Governors’ Association Recreation Task Force and President Obama’s Partnership for America’s Great Outdoors.
