Proposed $30K Fine Follows Inspection at Forest River

The following report is from the Elkhart Truth.

Forest River faced $30,000 in proposed fines following a safety inspection by the Indiana Department of Labor earlier this year.

The RV maker was given one serious violation following the February inspection by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The single repeat violation carried a proposed penalty of $30,000, according to a safety order and notification of penalty that was published months later.

OSHA records indicate an informal settlement with a $6,000 penalty was reached in March.

The inspection was carried out at 3012 Mobile Drive. The repeat violation concerned guards for machines not being properly secured.

According to the notice, on Feb. 12 at the plant, “during industrial activity, machine guarding was not adequate as to protect an employee from contacting moving parts.” The issue was addressed at the time of inspection.

Forest River was previously cited for the same violation at a Goshen plant in February 2022, according to the notice.
