RELiON Battery Partners With Nonprofit ‘Well Aware’

RELiON Battery, a global leader in the development of lithium batteries, announced a partnership with Well Aware, a nonprofit organization committed to funding and implementing clean water systems to drive development and empower communities in East Africa.

Through the partnership, RELiON will fund the creation of a well at Mummandu Health Centre, a vital pillar of the community, diligently serving nearly 70 patients every single day.

“We are proud to partner with Well Aware and help support this critical initiative,” said Danielle Ferguson, RELiON brand marketing director. “The new well that we are funding will not only help the staff at the Mummandu Health Centre better care for patients but could also save lives. We applaud Well Aware for the important work they do and for allowing us to be partners in such a significant project.”

The Mummandu Health Centre is unique in the region, featuring maternity wards that cater to expectant mothers throughout every stage of their pregnancy journey. The pressing issue of an unreliable water supply creates a variety of challenges. Currently, the center must resort to the sporadic purchase of water whenever financial resources permit, leading to difficult moments when the staff lacks the essential means to provide crucial treatments. The creation of the well is vital to ensuring that the community’s fundamental needs are met without compromise, enabling them to offer treatment to all those who depend on Mummandu Health Centre’s care.

Nearly one billion people lack access to clean water. The scarcity of clean water inhibits individuals, families and entire communities from leading healthy lives. Without clean water, education cannot thrive, gender inequality grows, economic activity becomes stagnant and development is stifled. Since its inception in 2008, Well Aware has built over 125 water systems with a 100% success rate, impacting more than 525,000 lives and increasing education rates by 34%.

“Through our work in East Africa over the past 16 years we have seen firsthand how the lack of access to clean water can impact people’s lives, and disproportionately those of women and girls,” said Sarah Evans, founder of Well Aware. “We are honored to partner with RELiON to bring clean water to the Mummandu Health Centre to ensure that they have access to this invaluable resource for decades to come.”

RELiON’s first supported water project was a rainwater catchment and UV purification system at Kwakatheke Primary School in Machakos County, Kenya. RELiON is dedicated to bettering the planet through supporting a variety of nonprofits. RELiON has partnered with more than 15 organizations focusing on issues such as renewable energy, food security, and ocean conservation. Some highlights include providing 6,700 people with clean water for 10 years with Wine to Water, recovering over 1.05 million pounds of surplus produce with Food Forward, and training 70 female entrepreneurs every 15 months through the Kula Project.
