RV sales in 2022 totaled 447,718 units in the United States and Canada, according to market research firm Statistical Surveys.
As reported in the March issue of RV Executive Today, a publication of the RV Dealers Association (RVDA), that figure compared to 487,698 units that were shipped from factories to dealerships means dealer inventories grew by 39,980 units for the year. That was the second consecutive year that inventories grew.
In 2021, factories shipped 595,438 units to dealers, while 566,997 units were sold.
In 2019 and 2020, inventories shrunk because of the huge demand increase for RVs caused by the COVID pandemic. So, the report notes, many industry analysts for comparison’s sake are viewing 2022 much like 2019 in terms of it being a “normal” year for sales. In that comparison, the number of units sold last year was down 3% from the 462,682 units sold in 2019. Shipments in 2022, however, were up 21% compared with 2019’s numbers.
