Shipment totals continued to climb through the month of March, rising 8.5 percent over the same period last year.

Total RV shipments totaled 36,535 last month, compared to 33,678 during the same period last year, according to the RV Industry Association.

Travel trailer and fifth wheel shipments represented the strongest growth compared to March 2014.

The strongest growth came from fifth wheel shipments, which grew 11.1 percent, from 6,999 in March 2014 to 7,778 in the same month this year.

Year-to-date growth through the first quarter of the year is 7.9 percent, as both towables and motorhomes continue to grow at a similar pace.

Class A and C motorhomes are down less than a percent compared to March 2014, but Class B sales, which represent a smaller portion of the market, spiked 17.7 percent – from 232 to 273 shipments – compared to the same month last year.

Popup shipments declined slightly (4.3 percent) during the month.

Both Class A and C shipments dipped less than a percent compared to March 2014.

Travel trailer and fifth wheel shipments make up 96 percent of all towable shipments in March 2015.

Although Class B shipments continue to grow, the category only represents 6 percent of all motorhome shipments in March 2015.
