RV Travel Show Visits Elkhart

The following is a report from The Elkhart Truth.

A Discovery Channel show that crisscrosses the country in a Winnebago has finally visited the RV capital in its fourth season.

The Elkhart episode of “RV There Yet?” will air at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21. Hosts Patrice and Kevin McCabe brought their Winnebago Adventurer 35F to Elkhart County for the show’s 10th episode this season.

They stayed at Eby’s Pines RV Resort in Bristol before heading out to see the sights, in addition to learning about the city from Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson. They sampled some beers at Brass Elk Brewing and visited the Lerner Theatre, the RV/MH Hall of Fame and the RV Technical Institute.

They visited the Hall of Heroes Superhero Museum, where owner Allen Stewart gave them a close look at some of the movie props he’s collected over the years. He said both hosts geeked out at the museum, but Patrice McCabe got a special kick out of being able to sit on the Batgirl motorcycle from the 1960s Adam West show.

“She really loved the Batgirl bike,” he said. “Apparently she’s a big Batgirl fan, so she loved that. They both loved the Adam West Batman costume, so a lot of the Batman stuff really resonated with them.”

A dozen other national television shows have featured the museum, according to Stewart, which he said is the top tourist attraction in Elkhart. He said everyone who comes through becomes a kid again.

“They absolutely loved it. They said, ‘Man, we could have done a whole episode just here,’ which a lot of shows have in the past,” Stewart said. “They seemed to enjoy all of it, the arcade games, all the stuff from everyone’s childhood, that’s what people love about the museum.”

Stewart said the show filmed in Elkhart County for around a week. They came to town in early May, in time for the annual RV Industry Power Breakfast.
