From attending our annual convention to serving on committees and providing valuable feedback, your engagement has been invaluable. Your insights have helped us navigate industry challenges, advocate for our members’ interests, and drive innovation.

RVDA Advocates for the RV Sector

Hill Day is a key component of RVDA’s advocacy strategy, enabling members to build in-person relationships with policymakers and highlight the association’s priorities. In 2024, Hill Day was successfully integrated with board meetings and the RVs on Sparks event, maximizing member participation and ensuring time in Ottawa was used efficiently. The event received positive feedback, particularly for its structure and seamless organization, though earlier alignment on schedules was recommended to further improve planning.

RVDA Wins

  • Effective Content: High-quality, bilingual, and visually appealing materials were instrumental in communicating RVDA’s priorities to MPs. To improve further, earlier preparation and coordination on messaging with partnering associations are recommended.
  • Tangible Political Action: On June 19, MP Lianne Rood (Lambton-Middlesex-Kent) introduced Private Members Bill C-410, titled “An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (campgrounds),” in the House of Commons. This milestone is the result of nearly a decade of collaborative advocacy by provincial campground associations, Canadian Camping and RV Association (CCRVA), RVDA of Canada, and Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association (CRVA).

Summer Outreach

RVDA’s 2024 summer outreach aimed to strengthen relationships between RV dealerships and Members of Parliament (MPs) through in-riding meetings. These meetings provided MPs with firsthand insights into the RV industry’s challenges and opportunities.

RVDA Wins

  • Engagement efforts: 164 MPs representing ridings with RVDA dealerships; 24 meeting requests accepted.
  • MP Interactions: Feedback from participating dealerships highlighted the quality of discussions. MPs demonstrated a strong willingness to engage and shown interest in key industry issues, such as the skilled labor shortage, campground infrastructure challenges, and road safety.
  • Political Momentum: Notably, the leader of the Bloc Québécois, Yves-François Blanchet, requested further industry details, signaling growing political support.

I’m particularly proud of the work we’ve done to foster a strong sense of community within the RVDA. By connecting with fellow members, sharing experiences, and collaborating on industry initiatives, we’ve strengthened our collective voice.
