Several RVs Destroyed in Fire at Florida Blue Compass Dealership
The following is a report from Tampa Bay’s NBC Channel 8.
Several RVs went up in flames at a dealership near Interstate 4 early Wednesday.
The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said it was called to the Blue Compass RV dealership in Dover, Florida, around 3:30 a.m. after drivers on Interstate 4 near McIntosh Road reported a large fire.
Fire crews said four RVs were engulfed in flames when they arrived.
“We were able to put the fire out pretty quickly, however, it looks like there are at least six units that have been directly involved in this either through direct fire or through smoke damage,” a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokesperson said.
No one was inside the RVs.
A video from David Dieppa shows heavy flames and smoke coming from the dealership.
“These RVs, they maximize their space here so they park them pretty close to each other so if one starts up on fire for whatever reason, the next one will quickly do so. Usually, it spreads pretty quickly through these types of vehicles,” a spokesperson said.
Blue Compass RV service director David Lasch said he is grateful that firefighters were able to contain the fire so quickly.
“They burn quickly. The walls are paper thin. It’s a lot of thin wood in there so surprised it didn’t stretch further,” Lasch said.
Lasch said all the units impacted by the fire appear to be stock units.
A fire investigator is working to determine the cause of the blaze.
