Spacious Skies Campgrounds Touts 4th Anniversary, ‘Noctourism’ Draw

Spacious Skies Campgrounds, a collection of 15 RV and glamping campgrounds located throughout the East, announced a series of monthly themes, each taking inspiration from starry skies.
Each campground decorates and stages guest events to broadly reflect the monthly theme. Events could include group stargazing events led by local astronomers, space-themed movie nights and kid-friendly scavenger hunts.
“As the name of our campgrounds suggests, we have drawn inspiration from our country’s compelling night skies from the day we started the company,” said Ali Rasmussen, co-founder of Spacious Skies Campgrounds. “Our energetic and endlessly innovative campground staffers are continuously discovering new ways to make their guests’ stays memorable, and these themes are merely a jumping off point for them to show off their creative chops.”
Themes include “Planetary Love” in April, honoring eco-focused outdoor fun and reflecting the company’s motto of “taking your indoors outdoors”; “Critter Constellations” in June, with animal-themed fun; Stellar Yuletide in July, with midsummer “Christmas in July”-inspired events and decorations; and “Spooktacular Skies and Cosmic Hauntings” in October, with Halloween-inspired events such as haunted trail walks and interstellar costume contests.
Spacious Skies Campgrounds is marking its fourth anniversary on March 19. Founded by lifelong camping enthusiasts Ali and Eric Rasmussen, the group quickly gained attention for its energetic and cutting-edge approach to campground management, reflecting its mission urging guests to “Take Your Indoors Outdoors.” For example, the company is deeply committed to ensuring that campground guests from all ethnicities, backgrounds, lifestyles and cultures feel welcomed and included in each location. Spacious Skies Campgrounds became the first private campground company to partner with Black Folks Camp Too, and all campgrounds completed that group’s Unity Blaze training program, which provides insights about how campgrounds can work to promote inclusion and diversity throughout their operations. Other partnerships include Girl Camper, LGBT+ Outdoors and Latinos Outdoors.
Campgrounds are located from Maine in the North to Georgia in the South. Some locations are especially well-suited for sky-themed events. For example, Spacious Skies Balsam Woods near the Central Maine town of Abbot, is located on the edge of AMC Maine Woods International Dark Sky Park. Guests of that campground are frequently treated to views of the aurora borealis, and staffers include serious astronomy buffs who partner with local astronomers to stage guest stargazing programs.
