Students Tour Dometic During Manufacturing Week

Dometic recently participated in Manufacturing Week in Elkhart County for the third year, educating local eighth grade students and highlighting the importance of the manufacturing industry, as well as the rewarding and highly skilled careers available.

After witnessing the impact these tours have on students, Dometic has increased the number of plant tours from four in 2016 to 13 in 2018, providing nearly 200 students this year alone the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work at Dometic.

When the students arrived at the facilities, they met with the operations manager along with manufacturing engineers, supervisors, and HR team. Students received a short synopsis of the company to gain a better understanding of how broad the reach and the opportunities that are involved.

The students then walked through the plant from beginning to end to experience the entire manufacturing process. Along the way, there was a hands-on activity and students learned about the education levels needed for different positions as well as the earning potential.

“Having hosted more than 400 students over the last three years at Dometic, we believe we have man an impact on the students and their understanding of positions available within our community ranging from all the way to the need for advanced degrees in engineering, management, maintenance, marketing, and sales,” said Jackie Hopper, human resources manager at Dometic. “We are excited as the students we first hosted in 2016 are now sophomores in high school. We would love to see some of these students come back to Dometic when they are ready to enter the workforce.”
