Tents for Troops reached out to industry leaders this week, asking business leaders to consider its non-profit organization for year-end donations.
Tents for Troops has 501(c)3 status from the IRS and is an all volunteer organization with no paid employees.
“Although our name is Tents for Troops, the majority of those using our program are young military families vacationing in RVs,” the group said in a news release. “As the program has grown, so have our expenses. All donations whether in-kind gifts or cash donations will help us to provide free RV sites and loaner RVs to our troops. Cash donations of any size always help, if you can send as little as $10 or $20 we will put it to good use.”
This year, Tents for Troops began a pledge program that asks manufacturers to donate $1 per unit shipped or sold.
Founder Charlie Curry said that it is his goal to have travel trailers set up at RV parks for use by military families in 2016.
“Donations of new or used RVs are always needed,” he said. “We can offer a tax letter for book value on any donated RV’s we can use in our RV Loaner program. If you have had an RV on your lot far too long, please consider donating it to T4T and give us a call.”
T4T also is interested in discussing any ideas industry members have that include “the goal of making sure that any member of our active duty military may be able to spend some much needed down time in an RV with their family without regard to cost.
