On Feb. 7, a final rule on Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products was published in the federal register. The rule is effective immediately and will incorporate by reference several updated standards.
The rule also updates allowable emissions testing methods and will permit small chamber testing correlation under ASTM 6007-14.
This new rule aligns the mill quality control testing requirements with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards and allows regulated wood producers and suppliers to continue operating under their current approach without significantly disrupting product certifications and supply chain processes.
Wood producers and suppliers are now able to use any testing method to label their products correctly for Toxic Substances Control Act purposes. Once wood producers begin shipping TSCA compliant and labeled product, RV manufacturers can then also start using a combined CARB/TSCA label on their finished RVs.
