Trends: Dealer Drops Chrysler, Focuses on RVs
A local car dealership will be undergoing a major change in the coming weeks.
Jen Shelby, owner of Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Hoopeston, Ill., recently announced plans to end the dealership’s partnership with Chrysler.
This story by Jordan Crook originally appeared in the Hoopeston Chronicle.
She said Chrysler signs are scheduled to be removed Nov. 12. However, that will not be the end of the dealership.
Shelby plans to continue to operate out of the location as the Get Out and Go RV dealership.
The dealership already offers the “Little Guy” model of RV trailer and Shelby said she is already looking at several other lines of campers that she would like to offer at the location in the future.
“The plan is to really beef up the camper side of things and train techs for RV service and bring in accessories, parts, everything that goes with having the campers here and work that side of things,” she said.
As for what caused the parting of ways with Chrysler, Shelby pointed to a lack of available Chrysler-certified technicians as the driving cause.
“The search to find qualified technicians,” she said. “That’s been the major struggle.”
This lack of qualified technicians can be traced to the absence of a built-in training program for technicians in the area.
