On Friday, March 13, President Trump announced a new Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) with Ecuador. Under the agreement, the United States will grant Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariff treatment to certain qualifying goods listed in Schedule 2 of the Agreement in exchange for Ecuador’s removal of various tariff and non-tariff barriers and the fulfillment of other commitments. The preferential treatment applies to specific goods that cannot be grown, mined, or otherwise naturally produced in the United States, including tropical plywood.
As part of the agreement, Ecuador will also reduce several non-tariff barriers by streamlining regulatory requirements and approval processes for U.S. exports, including accepting remanufactured goods from the United States and recognizing U.S. motor vehicle safety and emissions standards for vehicles and automotive parts.
