Volta Power, Outside Van Team Up on Off-Grid Class B Unit
Volta Power Systems has partnered with Outside Van on the company’s first-ever standardized Class B off-grid adventure vans. The new models, called the Approach and the Syncline, will each come equipped with a 13.2 kilo-watt hour lithium-ion Volta power system to enable reliable power without shore power access.
Previously, Outside Van has only offered custom van conversions for their customers who wanted an off-grid adventure van. Despite higher pricing than some of its Class B competitors, the company continued seeing increasing popularity and rising demand from customers. With this in mind, Outside Van decided to offer standard manufactured options.
“With 20 years of building custom van conversions, we’ve seen first-hand how customers’ desires have shifted over time,” said Susan Clemo, Outside Van’s CEO. “We took all that knowledge and transformed it into two incredible adventure vans that meet our customers’ continued high expectations for quality, including their ability to enjoy time off-grid.”
Both of the new standardized vans will come equipped with a 13.2 kWh NMC lithium-ion Volta system to provide power while off-grid. It will provide owners with enough power to spend days away from shore power, recharging from the engine while driving or the roof solar panels while resting. The Volta system also includes its 3200W low-profile inverter, which works seamlessly with the 48-volt A/C units for more efficient power usage.
The Approach is built on an AWD 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170 chassis, accompanied by seating and sleeping arrangements for four people. The Syncline will utilize the smaller 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144 chassis, which is better-suited for solo travelers or couples.
“We love seeing our partners succeed, and it’s been great to see Outside Van’s expansion over the past few years,” said Jack Johnson, CTO at Volta. “We’re grateful we can provide them with technology that meets customer expectations, and I’m excited to see their continued growth with Approach and Syncline.”
To accommodate increased production, Outside Van built a new 130,000-square-foot production facility and will be hosting an open house for the new Portland-based manufacturing facility on June 15.
The companies said that because the vans are standardized, they’ll be available for purchase through RV dealerships. Prospective buyers in Ohio will be able to purchase them through Mercedes-Benz of West Chester, while buyers in Oregon, California or Washington will be able to shop through various Johnson RV dealership locations. Van preorders are already open through participating dealerships.
