“The values of used RVs sold at wholesale auctions rose across the board once again last month. Consumer demand continues to be red hot, and dealer inventories remain far below average,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst, specialty markets, at Black Book, in his monthly report. “Auction volumes dropped noticeably last month, which is probably due to the ongoing lack of lender repossessions and dealers holding on to trade-ins that they would have normally sent to the auction.”
“Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $68,623, which is up $4,149 (6.4 percent) from the previous month,” Lawrence said. “Towables came in at $23,176, up $962 (4.3 percent) from last month. One year ago, the average motorhome sold for $47,220 and the average towable unit brought $17,506.”
Auction volume was down for all market segments: motorhomes decreased 17.6 percent while towables dropped 13.6 percent.
The average age of motorhomes was 10 years old (2011), and towables was six (2015).
