“The values of used RVs sold at wholesale auctions rose across the board once again last month, making it seven months in a row of increases,” said Eric Lawrence at Black Book, in his most recent monthly report. “The gains that we are seeing are slowing a bit, suggesting that we may soon see the wholesale market begin to flatten and return to more normal seasonal patterns. We are continuing to hear from dealers that they feel their lots are still understocked.
Taking a closer look at the markets, Black Book sees that the average selling price for motorized units was $75,489, which is up $2,306 (3.1 percent) from the previous month. Towables came in at $24,140, up $486 (2.1 percent) from last month. One year ago the average motor home sold for $48,462 and the average towable unit brought $17,010.
Auction volume was mixed: motorhomes rose 10.8 percent while towables dropped 9.5 percent.
The average age of motorhomes was twelve years old (2009), and towables was five (2016).
