Wholesale towables increased more than 60 percent year-over-year.“The values of used RVs sold at wholesale auctions rose across the board last month. We have been hearing from dealers around the country that consumer demand is still very high, and they have only about 25 percent of the used inventory that they would like,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst, Specialty Markets, at Black Book, in his monthly report. “Several said that manufacturers had been raising prices on their new units, which was letting them price their used units higher as well.
Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $64,474, which is up $1,507 (2.3 percent) from the previous month. Towables came in at $22,214, up $393 (1.8 percent) from last month. One year ago, the average motor home sold for $36,470 and the average towable unit brought $13,631.
Auction volume was up for all market segments: motorhomes increased 12.7 percent while towables jumped 27.6 percent, Lawrence said.
The average age of motorhomes was eleven years old (2010), and towables was six (2015).
