Wholesale RV Values Mixed as Summer Continues

Black Book released its monthly commentary for August.

“The values for used RVs sold at wholesale auction were mixed last month, with motorhomes dropping back down to their usual seasonal levels and towables inching up slightly. Now that we are in the heart of the summer, most dealers are fully stocked and are buying units at auctions to replace ones they have sold to retail customers or to better align their inventory with the demand they are experiencing,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst – specialty markets at Black Book.

Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorhomes was $63,472, which is down $12,349 (16.3%) from the previous month. Towables came in at $18,426, up $534 (2.9%) from last month. One year ago the average motorhome sold for $68,756 and the average towable brought $19,057.

Auction volume was mostly flat: motorhomes were unchanged while towables rose 1.7%.

The average age of motorhomes was nine years old (2016) and towables was five (2020).
