Wholesale RV Values Mixed as Winter Intensifies

“The average sales prices for motorhomes and towables sold at wholesale auctions were mixed last month, with towables declining and motorhomes increasing,” said Eric Lawrence of Black Book, in this month’s wholesale price report. “However, the average age of the towables stayed constant while the average motorhome was two years newer than those sold last month, which would more than likely explain their unexpected increase at this time of year.

“Taking a closer look at the markets, we see that the average selling price for motorized units was $68,565 which is up $6,495 (10.4%) from the previous month. Towables came in at $18,529, down $1,658 (8.2%) from last month. One year ago, the average motorhome sold for $79,270 and the average towable unit brought $21,405.”

Auction volume was up in December, Lawrence said: motorhomes increased 3.1% while towables edged up 0.1%.

The average age of motor homes was twelve years old (2011) and towables was seven (2016).
