Wholesale RV Values Mixed Heading into Late Fall
“For the second time in as many months, one of the major RV market segments has declined in value, but this time it was the towables dropping nine percent, falling for the first time in almost a year, while motorhomes reversed course and increased, coming in at their second highest value ever,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst for Specialty Markets at Black Book, in his most recent monthly report. “The direction of the market is best described as ‘uncertain,’ and we’ll be keeping a close eye on it going forward.”
Taking a closer look at the markets, the average selling price for motorized units was $74,990, which is up $5,037, or 7.2 percent, from the previous month. Towables came in at $22,009, down $2,271, or 9.3 percent, from last month. One year ago, the average motor home sold for $57,641 and the average towable unit brought $18,638.
Auction volume was mixed: motorhomes rose 4.9 percent while towables dropped 18.1 percent.
The average age of motorhomes was eleven years old (2010) and towables was six (2015).
