Nine counties in Iowa, along with some help from Winnebago Industries, have organized a welcome back event for Vietnam Era veterans.

OperationLZ takes place Aug. 27-30 in Forest City and includes displays of military equipment, air shows, helicopter rides and a ceremony hosted on the Winnebago Industries’ rally grounds, the Globe Gazette reports.

The ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. Aug. 29, and will include the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall nearby.

A motorcycle group will escort the wall with ties to Vietnam veterans, Lewis said. It will travel north on Interstate 35 to the Iowa Highway 9 exit where it will travel to Forest City.

“It should be in Forest City some time between 12:15 and 1 p.m.,” said Riley Lewis, who helped organize the event. “The public can welcome the wall along the route into Forest City.”

On Aug. 28, a military aircraft will fly over several high school football fields in the area including West Hancock High School and Forest City, Lewis said.
