Europe’s Roadsurfer Touts $98M Investment, Eyes North American Expansion
roadsurfer, one of the world’s leading providers of camper van travel, is receiving a total investment of €85 million ($98.8 million U.S.).
The financing consists of two components: asset-backed securities (ABS) financing of €60 million with the Macquarie Group and venture debt financing of €25 million with BBVA.
These transactions are an important step in roadsurfer’s capital strategy and support the company’s expansion plans, which includes North America, the company said.
ABS financing from the Macquarie Group
roadsurfer has secured ABS financing in the amount of €60 million from the global Macquarie Group. This agreement increases the existing ABS structure to a total of €200 million. The funds from this financing will be used to further expand the vehicle fleet, which currently consists of 10,000 campers, and to drive expansion in the European and North American markets.
Venture debt financing with BBVA
In addition, roadsurfer has secured venture debt financing of €25 million from the Spanish banking group BBVA. This financing will strengthen the company in terms of further growth and digital development. The agreement is supported by the European Union’s InvestEU program and the European Investment Fund, enabling particularly favorable terms.
“We are pleased to support roadsurfer in its continued growth through the expansion of its ABS financing. This transaction highlights Macquarie’s deep expertise in structuring and managing ABS solutions, as well as our commitment to enabling innovative businesses to scale effectively,” said Sarah Milne, managing director, Securitisations at Macquarie Group.
“roadsurfer represents the type of company BBVA wants to support: digital, innovative, and committed to fostering more sustainable ways of traveling and consuming. Its growth reflects the dynamism of the European entrepreneurial ecosystem and our commitment to providing flexible financial solutions to internationally ambitious companies,” said Donatella Callegaris, Head of Venture & Growth Lending at BBVA in Europe.
“These financing rounds reflect our partners’ confidence in our business model” said Markus Dickhardt, co-founder and CEO of roadsurfer. “The collaboration with Macquarie was marked by constructive dialogue and a shared understanding of long-term value creation.”
