For decades, RVs have been synonymous with camping trips, campfires and weekends by the lake. But there are a growing number of renters using RVs for family accommodations and sporting events to concerts or festivals.
And while camping remains the primary reason people may want to rent an RV, it is far from the only reason, RVezy said in a recent release. There are a host of occasions and events when an RV would be handy to have around, and when you only need it once or maybe twice a year, it is much more economical to look at a rental service than dropping big dollars on a purchase.
“Many equate an RV with a family camping trip, but we’re seeing renters use RVs in all kinds of creative and practical ways,” said Michael McNaught, CEO of RVezy, a leading online platform for peer-to-peer RV rentals. “As people look for flexible, affordable ways to bring family and friends together, RVs become much more than just recreational vehicles. They’re a versatile space that can go wherever life takes you.”
Based on what it has seen through its platform, RVezy suggests some ways, events and times when an RV rental is the sensible, cost-conscious alternative:

This is a perfect time to park an RV in the driveway, automatically growing the capacity of your home without putting anybody out. The accommodations are comfortable, affordable and still close to home without putting anybody out of their norm.
- Base of Operations — Successful events often have one thing at their core: A base of committed volunteers (or workers) hustling together in a sprint to make sure everything goes according to plan. If that event is outdoors, renting an RV is a great option for a base of operations or place where people working the event can go to relax, unwind and maybe grab a quick bite to eat.
- The Famed Friends’ “Trip” — Whether it’s the guys or the girls, a golf trip or a concert, the trip is memorable in an RV. Maybe that is making a full road trip of it, and all participants pile in with their gear, or the rental is made at the destination for an affordable place to stay.
- Tailgating — The autumn is prime time for sports — return of the NFL season, baseball playoffs, NBA and NHL seasons kicking off. Make a full game-day experience with an RV for tailgating — it’s a place to cook and eat, and then sleep it off afterward.
- Tournaments — Families with kids in competitive sports know that it is a big commitment, on both your time and your wallet. An RV is not only a great alternative to a hotel room, it could also be a gathering place for the players and their parents as they kick back between games.
RV deliveries are a big and growing sector on the RVezy platform, the company said. In the last month, an estimated 34% of RV renters are having them delivered to the destination, removing the last barrier for families who may consider an RV but don’t have the know-how or truck to tow one.
