Bristol, Indiana-Based Robert Weed Corp. Closes After 59 Years

After nearly 60 years in business, Robert Weed Corporation in Bristol closed Tuesday, Nov. 25, a report from WSBT 22 stated.

It supplied hardwood plywood for RV products, stores and housing. The closure came as a shock to the community, WSBT 22 said.

Multiple rounds of layoffs have happened in the past few years, according to a former employee. Workers were notified through email or through their payroll system the company was shutting down on Tuesday.

WSBT 22 obtained the letter sent to employees, which said, “It is with deep regret that I share the difficult news that Robert Weed Plywood Corp. will be ceasing operations effective immediately. This decision comes after exhaustive efforts to secure the resources needed to continue operating the business, and it is not the outcome any of us hoped for. I want to extend my sincere gratitude for your hard work, dedication and resilience through extraordinarily challenging circumstances. The commitment each of has shown to this organization, to our customers, and to one another has been remarkable, and it has not gone unnoticed.”

The message was signed by the company’s management team.

WSBT 22 said it reached out to Robert Weed’s CEO, Will Weed, but has not heard back.

“Robert Weed has been very involved in the community, not just in the community of Bristol but in the entire community of Elkhart County,” said Mike Yoder, Bristol town manager.

The town of Bristol is looking onward to the future [and] hoping to help both the company have a smooth transition and help attract a new operation to fill the now-empty 763,000-square-foot space.
