KOA Congratulates KCN on Acquisition of the Door County KOA Holiday

Kampgrounds of America Inc. (KOA) congratulated KCN Campgrounds as the new owner of the Door County KOA Holiday. KCN specializes in acquiring, managing, and enhancing destination campgrounds, particularly within the KOA network. A longtime KOA franchisee and partner, KCN Campgrounds successfully operates multiple KOA campgrounds, continuously upholding the brand’s high standards for outdoor hospitality, KOA said in a recent release.

Situated on a beautifully wooded property on Wisconsin’s Door County peninsula, the Door County KOA Holiday is a popular base camp for families and travelers looking to experience the region’s shoreline, state parks, charming small towns and local culture, from scenic drives and outdoor recreation to seasonal festivals, wineries and lighthouses.

“Door County is a special place, and this campground has long been a favorite for families making lifelong memories together,” said Kevin Thueson, CEO of KCN Campgrounds. “We’re excited to build on what guests already love about this KOA. By investing thoughtfully in the property, we will elevate the guest experience, continuing to deliver the reliable, welcoming standards that campers expect when they see the KOA sign.”

Campgrounds have a significant economic and cultural impact on local communities, KOA said. According to KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers injected $61 billion into local economies in 2024, with the average camper spending $200 daily while camping. Campers are looking to experience the culture of local regions, with 27% of campers saying they are interested in visiting small towns, and another 27% drawn to food tourism.

KOA Holiday campgrounds are ideal base camps for exploring the area or simply enjoying a fun-filled stay with plenty of activities, the company said. Whether for a longer getaway or an overnight stop, KOA Holiday campgrounds offer amenities and services that make every stay memorable. Each KOA Holiday offers full-service RV Sites with a KOA Patio and Deluxe Cabins with full bathrooms.

The Door County KOA Holiday features a great lineup of family-friendly amenities designed for “stay-and-play” fun, including multiple swimming pools, a water slide, and a splash park, plus mini golf, bike rentals, a game room, fishing, sports courts, themed weekends, EV charging and KampK9 for four-legged campers.

The Door County KOA Holiday is one of more than 500 open-to-the-public KOA campgrounds in the U.S. and Canada. Other brands in the KOA Family of Campgrounds include KOA Journeys, convenient locations after a long day on the road that feature long pull-thru RV sites and easy after-hours check-in. KOA Resorts offer an abundance of staff-led activities, on-site dining, group meeting space and more.

Located at 9245 Lovers Lane in Brussels, Wisconsin, the Door County KOA Holiday is open April 14 to Oct. 31.
