Why OEMs Are Producing EV RVs & What Customers Are Looking For
The following is an excerpt from The Future of EV RVs from the April 2026 issue of RV PRO magazine. For the full Q&A printed in that issue, click here.
Why is your company pursuing EV RVs & what do you expect to be the price point for these units?
Cory Weatherton, senior director of product development, Jayco Family of Companies:
Over the past number of years, we’ve seen the automotive market slowly moving toward electrification and other alternative fuel sources. It does seem as though alternative fuel sources to fossil fuels will become more and more mainstream in the coming years. As a company, it’s our desire to be innovative and remain relevant in regard to consumer demand. We have seen diesel pushers decline in popularity, and also certain states not allowing their residents to buy these products. We feel as though our Entegra Coach Embark, with the electric chassis and range extender, will be a great alternative for those who have a passion for RVing and live in those states. We anticipate the unit will have a retail price of approximately $400,000.
Royer Allman, vice president – chassis administration, Forest River Inc.:
Forest River recognizes the long-term benefits and potential viability of electric RVs. As consumer interest in sustainability and off-grid capability continues to grow, we believe electrification will ultimately play a role in the RV market and eventually have a place within one of our brands. At this stage, we are not discussing projected price points. The EV chassis market is still evolving, and pricing will ultimately depend on advancements in battery technology, range capability and scalable production.
Ivan Wang, chief marketing officer, Evotrex:
The Evotrex-PG5 Pioneer starts from $119,990 and comes standard with a 43 kWh battery, Active Power Assist, and the Horizon generator. Stepping up to the Atlas — our fully loaded flagship trim priced at $159,990 — adds all available options, including integrated solar, a power awning, the Terrece, a dynamic skylight, a premium interior, forged wheels and more.
Sam Shapiro, founder and CEO, Grounded:
We started Grounded because we saw a fundamental mismatch in the RV industry: People who care deeply about nature and the outdoors were being asked to explore it in diesel-burning vehicles built with materials that don’t reflect their values. The technology to fix that exists, it just hadn’t been applied to this category with enough ambition. But electrification is only part of the thesis. What we’re really building is a modular architecture that lets us configure vehicles for radically different use cases on the same electric chassis. The same platform and design system that powers a camper van for a couple living on the road also powers a mobile dental clinic for Colgate or a field operations vehicle for a municipal fleet. The infrastructure is catching up fast; our G3 can charge on both CCS and Tesla Superchargers, and the economics of electric drivetrains keep improving. We think the companies that figure out how to build compelling, livable spaces on top of these platforms now will define the category for the next decade. The G3 is available across three tiers: G3 Form starts at $211,995, G3 Function at $224,995 and G3 Freedom at $234,995. Each tier reflects a different level of configuration, from a clean, essentials-focused build with a queen bed and smart home functionality, up to the fully loaded Freedom with max battery, high-speed Starlink, lift bed, full kitchen and bathroom suite, and our full palette of designer recycled materials.
Toby Kraus, co-founder and CEO, Lightship:
RVs are an iconic American product, but the industry hasn’t meaningfully evolved in decades. We saw an opportunity to reinvent the RV around electrification, efficiency and modern manufacturing. Pricing ranges from $151,000 for the AE.1 Panos, $184,000 for the AE.1 Atmos, and $250,000 (limited run) for the Founders Edition (Cosmos). As we scale production, we’re focused on improving accessibility while maintaining performance and quality.
