Lakewood Camping Resort Celebrates 60 Years
Lakewood Camping Resort, Myrtle Beach’s family vacation destination is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
Carl and Mary Perry founded Lakewood Camping Resort in 1959. Lakewood has grown over the past six decades to be one of the largest camping resorts in the world, according to the company.
“We have always started the brainstorming process with the simple question, ‘What is it that a young family wants out of a vacation, and how can we give it to them?’” asked Don Perry, president of Lakewood Camping Resort. “One of the ways that we answer that question is by the sharing of new ideas from all generations of our family so that we can continue to evolve and to meet the modern needs of the young families that we serve.”
An award-winning oceanfront full-sized water park, a fitness center, restaurants and food trucks, an indoor pool, beachfront playground, beachfront volleyball and basketball courts, free bike rentals, golf cart rentals, multiple watercrafts disposals, are a few of the ways the resort has achieved that goal thus far.
In 2015, the resort developed a wristband system to make it easier for guests to use amenities around the park. Then, in 2016, that technology was enhanced to include the option to use the waterproof wristbands as a wallet. Along with the new technology came the “My Lakewood Guest Portal” allowing guests to conveniently add or transfer money to and from their wristbands, see specials that are running around the resort, and take advantage of the Lakewood Loyalty Program. This program allows guests to earn points that translate into spendable credits on their next visit.
“Being around for 60 years has allowed us to become extremely knowledgeable about the industry and guests, and a lot more industry changing innovations have already been developed,” said Don Perry.
