The most recent National Powersport Auctions (NPA) data showed RV and camper Average Wholesale Prices 23% above year-ago levels while easing 6% against the prior three-month average*. That year-over-year gain came on thinner volume and a higher-value mix of units, so it reflects a shift in what sold rather than a surge in demand.
Buy Low Now, Sell Higher in Spring
The gap between a November acquisition cost and a March retail price is the clearest margin opportunity on the calendar, NPA said. Inventory remains plentiful across motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels and campers, giving dealers a broad selection heading into the slow months.
Set a maximum bid before you buy and stick to it, factoring in carry cost through the winter. Clean, retail-ready units continue to command a premium. Be cautious with book values when taking trades, as auction values in most categories remain below JD Power book values*.
Winterization & Reconditioning Season
With cold weather here, dealers across the country are focused on winterizing. Protecting water lines, tanks and appliances from freezing and cracking is the difference between a profitable unit in spring and a repair bill.
NPA winterizes all RV units, the company said, so inventory purchased through the lanes is protected. Shrink wrapping is now available as well, adding protection for units stored outdoors or held long term.
The slow months are also a practical time to get units reconditioned and retail-ready before spring buyers return.
