Campgrounds in Indiana, Maine Opening

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb says that campgrounds in Indiana will be allowed to open this Friday as the state moves into Stage 3 of its reopening plan. Under Holcomb’s previous executive order, campgrounds were not scheduled to open until May 24 – the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.

“Our state is proud of the fact that we are responsible for 83 percent of the total American production of RVs,” Holcomb said during Wednesday’s press conference. “So, this is of particular interest to not just that sector but to the folks that like to get out on their own and see our great state. Campgrounds will be open come Friday morning.”

Also, the state of Maine is accelerating the opening of private campgrounds across the state, officials said Tuesday.

Private campgrounds and RV parks can open Friday, while public campgrounds will reopen June 1 as previously planned.

There will be precautions to keep Mainers safe, including spaces between campsites and limits on the size of gatherings.
