DUO-Form Team Tackles Fire at Michigan Facility
At approximately 4:30 EST yesterday, Edwardsburg Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to DUO-Form Plastics, 69836 Kraus Road, for a piece of machinery on fire.
The fire department said crews were on scene within five minutes and sized up a large commercial structure with moderate smoke coming from rooftop vents and out overhead doors.
“Due to the size of the structure and amount of smoke, a commercial box alarm was called requesting additional resources and manpower from neighboring departments,” Edwardsburg Fire Dept. said in a Facebook post. “After meeting the factory safety supervisor at the entry of the building and after an initial search, the factory safety team was able to extinguish a large plastic fire within a machinery using eight fire extinguishers prior to our arrival. The fire was deemed extinguished and the commercial box disregard. It was a fantastic job by the DUO-Form safety team to safely extinguish the fire saving millions of dollars of possible fire damage.”
Multiple DUO-Form team members, including President Shelly Ditmer, shared thoughts on staff reactions to the situation.
“…If it wasn’t for the hard work of our safety team, supervisors and managers; last night’s event could have been catastrophic. Being there myself and seeing the quick action taken by all was amazing. So proud of our Duo team and their efforts to make a difference!” said Ditmer in a LinkedIn post.
