Go RVing’s Trends To Know: Community

Go RVing released its Monthly Trends Report, this month with findings on something that transcends trends: Community.

Numbers to know: More Americans today than two decades ago rate their community activities, hobbies or recreational activities as “extremely” or “very important” to them.

Outdoor recreation (particularly RVing) has proven to be a successful way for many to satisfy the enduring human need for community.

  • The Go RVing 2025 Owner Demographic Profile found that many enjoy social activities during their RV adventures. 37% enjoy visiting local attractions and/or participating in food tours, 26% enjoy outdoor sports, 19% attend music festivals and 12% tailgate. That’s several opportunities for socialization and building up an RVing community!

Other popular ways that RVers seek out community while on the road include:

  • Joining RV clubs: There are RV clubs for many different types of RV enthusiasts, and all of them host frequent camping events or “rallies” that provide opportunities for like-minded RVers to engage with one another as they explore different campgrounds across the country.
  • RV parks and campgrounds: These locations present natural opportunities for community building. Many campgrounds have activities such as hiking, bike riding, swimming, cornhole, board games and more, which encourage campers to engage and interact.
  • Volunteering: Some RVers participate in volunteer events while on the road, such as park cleanup initiatives or building projects. Great examples include Lippert’s seRV program and Habitat for Humanity’s RV Care-A-Vanners program. These shared activities contribute to a good cause and build strong bonds among participants.

On the road to connection: The RV industry can continue to elevate the sense of community experience among consumers by:

  • Organizing events and activities: This is a great way to bring people together. Examples include social gatherings (potluck dinners or outdoor movie nights); outdoor activities (group hikes, fitness classes, and team-building exercises); creative outlets (arts and crafts, book clubs); and seasonal celebrations (themed events for holidays like the Fourth of July, Halloween, or Christmas).
  • Developing community-focused apps: Creating apps that allow RVers to connect with others nearby, share local recommendations, or find fellow travelers with similar interests can be a great way to build community in the RV world.
    • One example is the Harvest Hosts App, which allows members to access the virtual map of locations, host information, reviews, and more.
  • Hosting (or supporting) RV shows and rallies: The industry can continue to be actively involved in major events, provide a space for RVers to connect, learn about new products, and participate in social activities.
  • Offering educational resources: Providing resources on RV maintenance, safety, and travel planning can help new RVers feel more at ease and connected to the community.
  • Telling RVers’ stories: By sharing the authentic experiences of real RVers, the industry can continue highlighting the friendships and connections that are an integral part of the RV lifestyle.
