Man Finds Purple Heart in RV

A stolen Purple Heart medal belonging to a Korean War veteran in Utah somehow made its way to Portland, Ore., and the man who found it hopes to return it to the family in time for Memorial Day he told KATU.

Jeffrey Drury’s family recently fell on some hard times, and last week they moved into an RV.

The RV needs some repairs – Drury says it can’t drive anywhere. But inside, he found a piece of treasure.

On the back of the medal, the inscription was made to Derral G. Tarrance, a Korean War veteran.

Cindy Dempsey’s father died in July of 2011 in Utah, where she and the rest of his family currently live.

Three months ago, she says, someone broke into her mother’s home and stole the medal, his urn, and a memorial flag.

Dempsey’s family will be meeting up with Jeffrey in Oregon on Saturday.

Dempsey said they are still looking for her father’s red urn and a memorial flag.

Jeffrey and his wife are expecting a baby, and are currently asking for help repairing the trailer, before the baby arrives.
