New KOA Site Gives Campers Access to Canada’s Prince Edward Island
Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) congratulated Emily Lawless and Spencer Dougay as the new owners of the Borden / Summerside KOA Journey. Passionate about hospitality, tourism and creating memorable guest experiences, the new owners bring a community-focused vision to the campground, building on its longstanding reputation as a welcoming stop for travelers exploring Canada’s Prince Edward Island.
Located just off the Confederation Bridge, the Borden / Summerside KOA Journey is one of the first introductions to Prince Edward Island for arriving travelers, with easy access to coastal scenery, beaches, small towns, seafood restaurants and local attractions, KOA said.
“We immediately saw the potential for this campground to become more than just a place to stay. We want it to be a destination people return to year after year,” said Emily Lawless, owner of the Borden / Summerside KOA Journey. “Prince Edward Island has such a strong sense of community and hospitality, and we’re excited to create a campground experience that reflects that through live music, themed events, family-friendly activities and meaningful connections with both travelers and locals.”
Campgrounds like the Borden / Summerside KOA Journey have a significant economic and cultural impact on local communities. According to KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers injected $66 billion into local economies in 2025, with the average camper spending more than $200 daily while camping. Campers are looking to experience the history and culture of local regions, 33% say they are interested in visiting small towns, and another 38% are drawn to historic sites.
