The following is an excerpt from a report by the RV Industry Association on April 14.
Ensuring the safety of RVs is a cornerstone of the RV industry’s continued growth and consumer trust. At the heart of this mission are the RV Industry Association’s Standards Subcommittees, whose collaborative efforts bridge the gap between emerging technology and rigorous safety protocols.
By gathering experts to refine the codes that govern everything from electrical systems to fire prevention, these meetings serve as the primary forum for self-regulation and technical excellence.
This ongoing dedication to high standards not only protects the end-user but also streamlines manufacturing processes and ensures compliance across state lines.
With this mission in mind, the RV Industry Association’s Plumbing, Heating, Fire & Life Safety, and Electrical Subcommittees recently convened for their two-day meeting in Tempe, AZ. 80 attendees were present on both days. The second semi-annual meeting will take place this fall.
The committees are comprised of industry representatives, including manufacturers, suppliers, testing agencies, and other RV Industry members. They meet semiannually, once in the spring and the fall.
This year’s agenda covered a variety of items, including:
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)’s Revision Cycles of the 1192 Standard for RVs and the National Electrical Code
- State code updates in Washington and Nebraska
- Ground Monitoring Interrupter updates on the evaluation standard
- Corporate goals surrounding standards and engagement with members
- Handbook proposals
- A review and vote on NFPA 1192 code change proposals
