Matt Mullenweg, the founder and CEO of WordPress and its parent firm, Automattic, recently touted his discovery of how to mount Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starlink satellite dish on top of his RV.

Mullenweg told Protocol in an interview that the pandemic’s early days forced him to buy an RV to drive himself around the U.S., including stops in national parks from San Fransisco to Houston. The internet entrepreneur told the news outlet that he “really loves networking equipment” and was seeking ways to customize his RV – including a faster way to connect to internet remotely. He said that he “set up a multiple-cell phone modem router,” which allows him to connect to the three biggest carriers in the U.S. However, despite that, he has made the connection into a single Wi-Fi network, Tech Times reported.

“What we recently figured out was how to mount a Starlink (dish antenna) on top,” Mullenweg said in the Protocol interview. “You can’t drive around with it, and I think it’s geo-locked to just the Wyoming region.”

However, he noted SpaceX announced plans to roll out a mobile version in the future, which will allow him to work while moving. Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of SpaceX, announced last April 16 that Starlink will be fully mobile by late 2021.

Mullenweg said his RV is now getting internet quality the same as a broadband connection after installing the Starlink disk.
